Car companies all over the world have already included portable auto GPS as one of their cars' features aside from speed, security and design. With the unending benefits a GPS can do, it is understandable why anyone would want to have it. GPS is the acronym for Global Positioning System. The system consists of three segments, the space segment, control segment and the user segment. All three segments are constantly communicating with over 2 dozen space satellites orbiting the earth daily.

If prompted, the satellites would send radio signals to the GPS unit in the car and the satellite estimates the distance of the vehicle by determining how much time it takes for the radio signals to reach the GPS. The GPS system, with all its intricacies, can accurately locate the exact position of the car. It also guides drivers by informing him of the nearest gasoline station, repair station, hotels or restaurants. And if the car is stolen, the owner can locate the position of the car, wherever it may be.

Auto GPS can also keep a record of the car mileage, speed and distance traveled on a trip. It can also keep records of the addresses of the car's destination, names of the streets travelled, and how long the vehicle remained at a certain location. GPS can also benefit the car owner by updating him of basic things like when the battery is low or when the car needs to have an oil change or when it needs refueling.

Best auto GPS today even includes features which notify emergency services whenever an airbag is deployed. 911 is then informed by the system of the exact location of the car for them to provide immediate assistance to the injured driver and passengers.

Moreover, this system has provided solutions for lost key problems or frozen keys. The GPS inside the car can communicate with the owner. The driver can phone the GPS and prompt it to start the engine even if he is located at a good distance. These are but a few wonders GPS can do for a car owner. There are still amazing uses which are still being conceived by car companies utilizing the GPS technology. In the next decades, more advanced features will be installed and the possibilities are as limitless as the imagination.
