One of the scariest things about the modern global village is the rising rate of crime that seems to be less and less of an anomaly and more and more of a trend on a frighteningly global scale. As the middle class withers away to almost nothing and the widening gap between the rich and the poor opens its mouth like an angry ghoul, most business owners realise that the fight against crime is only going to grow more intense before life gets any better.

There are hundreds if not thousands of GPS systems and GPS devices on the market today. Trying to find a GPS device for vehicle tracking or as a navigational tool can be a little bit confusing because they all have varying capabilities. When it comes to picking a tracking device, GPS tracking is definitely the way to go.

GPS systems are four or more satellites that send signals to a receiver on the ground. Some GPS devices can track a vehicle to within 10 feet-that is how accurate they are. They can be used for tracking anything that moves including children. They are most commonly used for vehicle tracking but can be used for tracking packages or monitor your kids' activity while driving the family car.

So your eyes aren't distracted while driving, it's beneficial to have a GPS like the Garmin Nuvi 255, which gives voice prompts along with showing the routes on-screen. The directions, which typically say to turn left, right, continue on-route or make a u-turn, also identify the streets by name. Knowing the name of the street you need to turn on makes it easier to locate in a foreign area. When fuel-efficiency is a concern, you can also specify in the settings to calculate a better and more fuel efficient route.

Avoidance preferences also allow you to designate the type of roads you're going to travel on while getting to your destination. It's possible to avoid multiple or single types of roads such as highways or toll roads. If you would prefer not to make any u-turns along your travels, you can also disable those.

To ensure that you follow the speed limit, even when you don't see the signs posted to inform you of the regulations, the unit has an integrated speed limit indicator to give the speed limits on most major roads and highways in both the United States and Europe. It's also possible to find some of the largest landmarks by selecting "Where am I?", which will give the location of the closest hospitals, police stations and address or intersection.

The system is accurate within 10 meters, weighs only 2.2 ounces and is about the size of a cell phone. It uses a rechargeable lithium-ion battery with the life of 7 to 10 days on standby. Because it is a pay-as-you-go system and no contract is required it is the best value in GPS systems.
