Lorry drivers can spend hours on end on the road, sometimes up to 12, and in this time they will see all kinds of things that the normal motorist will miss. Traffic jams are a regular part of their lives unfortunately, and the reasons for these can vary including road works, average speed checks and of course accidents. For a truck or HGV driver it can be immensely inconvenient and cause untold anger and frustration.
This is especially true for truck drivers as you have to make your delivery and get back home in time to see your family so could do without sitting in traffic for hours on end! But however bad a traffic jam you come across, take comfort from the fact that the following traffic jams were probably much worse for the truck drivers involved!
China is the location of what was called "the worst ever traffic jam" back in August 2010, and an increase in lorries was said to be the cause! The National Expressway 110 was gridlocked for 9 days and to alleviate the boredom many truckers were spotted playing games like cards at the side of the road. It was not just the increase of lorries that caused the problem, there was a lot of construction work going on at the same time.
Some cities are notorious for having bad traffic problems, such as London. But Sao Paolo took it to another level in 2009 when they had 35% of the streets blocked...at the same time!!
Moscow is another bad city - when it snows, which it does regularly, it all generally comes to a stand-still!
The length of the typical traffic jam you will see is probably only a few miles and still feels like it takes an age to get through. Imagine what the worlds' longest traffic jam would be like...110 miles long! This was near Paris in 1980.
